It’s March and that means, theoretically, Spring should be with us soon. And who isn’t looking forward to that?!
So, getting to think about Spring, it’s vibrancy and how the natural world starts awakening, got me thinking about colours which reflect the new season. My thoughts took me to the colour Coral. And with colour specialists, Pantone, releasing their Colour of the Year for 2019 as ‘Living Coral’, it is about time I made it my Colour of the Month for March.
Pantone’s Living Coral is being hailed as ‘An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge.’
Natural coral actually comes in many colours, from reds and pinks to blues and even black and white, but we naturally associate the colour of coral as being a soft shade of pink with yellow undertones.
The beauty of using coral when putting an interior design scheme together is that it comes in many varied shades, from soft and subtle through to vivid and bright, but each shade brings warmth and tranquillity, sitting between red and orange on the colour spectrum.
The warmth of the colour means it pairs well with natural fibres, such as woods and hessians, but also looks fabulously luxurious teamed with ascents of copper or gold.
If you’re wanting to mix it with other colours, it sits beautifully next to whites, creams, any shades of grey and even blacks, particularly soft charcoal black. Or add splashes of teal or turquoise.
Coral is pretty, versatile, uplifting yet soothing, soft yet dynamic, feminine yet strong. For me it makes a perfect Spring colour, making it the perfect colour for this year’s March.
I’d love to see some photos of your own experiments with coral, especially Pantone’s Living Coral, so please feel free to send them over.
